w/out losing your shit.
Breakups suck. It doesn't matter if you're the one doing the breaking up or you're the one getting dumped. It isn't easy for anyone. And it's super easy to get caught in a downward spiral after one. So I wanted to share some of my best tips on how to survive a breakup to make it suck a little less and have you come out a sparkly new person on the other side!

GUYS!!
Please... DO NOT lie about your height on your online dating profile. Just don't. I get it.... there are women out there who won't even give you a chance if you tell the truth. But here's what happens when you lie.... One of the best things I think a couple can do is understand that they're different people... they're going to think differently, have different views on things, have different feelings, and they're going to love and need to be loved in different ways. What one person might need from their partner could actually be a turn off to the other person. Expecting someone to think like you and need the same things as you when they don't can cause a lot of issues in a relationship. "Expectations are premeditated resentments."
My best friend is pretty amazing. We share laughs, tears, we've been though ups and downs, and she's ALWAYS the first person I go to with dating advice. So when she posted this in the #BabeSquad today I messaged her right away and said "I NEED to post that! Women need to hear it!" So today, one of my best friends, Shannon, is our guest blogger... and now you're all going to see why I love her so much!!
Just a quick note today to share something I just learned!
I'm listening to a webinar on relationships with the author of Mastering Your Mean Girl and she has 6 Secrets of Love that I love!!!! 6 Secrets of Love....
One of the biggest things that attracted me to my current boyfriend was that he was always working to better himself. When we met we were both going through divorces after 10 and 12 year marriages and he seemed to take responsibility and really be focused on personal growth. That was huge for me because that's something I talk a lot about with my coaches and it's been such an important part of my life, especially over the past couple years and working through my own shit. I am always looking to learn and to grow as a person and I'm a huge advocate of seeing a therapist (everyone needs one!)
One night while we were in a hotel in Ohio, he suggested that we make a list of rules for our relationship that we would literally print out and put on the fridge so we see it every day. I'm excited to see this list grow as we do and please let me know if there's anything you think should be added to the list!
So here I am! Dating...
Considering all the horror stories people like to share about dating later in life and also with online dating, I have to say I've actually had a great experience and really love dating. (Crazy, I know!) Online dating can be a full time job, you definitely have to weed out a LOT of people, but the ones that did make it to the first (or second or third) date were all really great guys, most of them I'd hook up with any of my friends. I just wasn't into any of them for myself. |
