From confused to IN CONTROL!
I have struggled with food and my weight for as long as I can remember. I was never what you would considered fat, I had at most about 20 extra lbs on me at any time, but I was so caught up in society's standards of what a girl and then woman "should" look like. I was suffering from depression and not happy about the way I looked. I'd pinch my stomach in front of the mirror. I'd keep buying new clothes because I didn't like how anything fit. I thought my looks defined who I was as a person.
Being "skinny" has never my goal, but I desperately wanted to be fit and toned. I want to have definition. I wanted abs.
But I felt so lost. I had no clue what to eat.... Low carb? Fat free? Adkins? I ate Pop Tarts for lunch in high school because they were "small". I've eaten too many Lean Cuisine's to count. I've done juice fasts and raw food diets. I even tried Hydroxycut (which made me even more depressed) and Weight Watchers (which only taught me how to count points, not how to eat healthy, and had me living off of baked Cheetos, deli slices and diet Mountain Dew until I gained all the weight back). I wasted so much money chasing that next magic pill that promised me results. I also had no clue what workouts to do. I liked lifting weights, but had no plan to follow, had no clue if I was doing it right, and I hated going to the gym because I felt like everyone was watching and judging me.
And then I saw an infomercial for P90X. It was exactly the workouts I wanted, and even better, I could hide at home and do them where no one could see me and judge me. I learned about clean eating and how to read food labels and I threw out all the "diet" foods I had lived off of before. I replaced my old protein shake with Shakeology which added over 70 superfoods, adaptogens, probiotics and other amazing things into my diet. Then the 21-Day Fix came out and that meal plan changed everything for me! It told me exactly what foods to eat, what ratios and what portions. It took all the guess work out of it.
Not only did I see crazy physical changes and lose over 10lbs and became the healthiest I had ever been, I FELT amazing! My sleep improved, my digestion improved. I now had the tools, the support and the knowledge to create BALANCE in my life and make this a lifestyle, and not another crash diet. It has been a complete mind shift and I'm such a different person now than when I first started a few short years ago!
