12 Life Truths I Learned from Divorce and Dating

New relationships are great... you can't wait to see the person, you love the time you spend together, you haven't figured out what makes them flawed yet... they can also be a total learning experience. You're learning all about a new person... what they need, how they communicate (or don't), what their insecurities are... you learn about yourself.... what you need, how you communicate (or don't), your own insecurities and triggers, things you're willing to put up with and things you're not.... your ex may be a pain, they may have their own ex that you now have to deal with. Lots of fun factors get thrown in there. So to say I had a shit day yesterday is an understatement, but I'm using my shit day as an opportunity to reflect, brainstorm, and hopefully help anyone who needs to read this right now.

  1. Personal development works!!! Whether it's through books, audio, therapy, whatever... EVERYONE needs it, and if you think you don't, you need it even more
  2. Hurt people hurt people
  3. All logic and reasoning goes out the window when emotion is involved (don't even get me started on this one... I have so much more I could say but one of my bff's made me delete it all lol she's a smart chick!)
  4. Be careful what you wish for.... if you want a strong woman, don't expect her to be a pushover when it's convenient for you... want a divorce, be ready for the other person to also move on... you don't get to pick and choose what parts of the new thing you get
  5. Find your tribe, your true friends, and love the shit out of them
  6. Don't ever stop being YOU.... someone may not like me because I drop too many f bombs... if it wasn't that it would be my nose ring, or my tattoos, or where I live or the things I post, or that I use too many emojis or post too many selfies, or vaguely talk about you in my blog (because I know you read it).... they'll always find something to not like if they want to...
  7. YOU ARE NOT A VICTIM.... stop blaming everyone and everything for your circumstances and take responsibility for your own life and your own actions
  8. Everything is a learning experience.... you get to decide if you grow from it or continue the same behaviors... yes, it's your choice
  9. You cannot control others.... the only thing you can control is how you react.... which gives you tons of power!!
  10. Stop holding on to resentment... when you hold on to resentment you keep score which keeps you in the drama (thanks to my friend, Jesika, for this one!)
  11. People's opinions of you almost always have NOTHING to do with you and have everything to do with themselves and their own insecurities
  12. Be kind to everyone, you never know what they're going through at the moment.... BUT this doesn't mean you have to put up with their shit and make excuses for people's asshat behavior, they're also adults and are responsible for their own actions (feel free to send them this list!)

Stepping off my soap box for now.... I hope my day can help you get through something you're going through right now!
