7 Ways to Ditch the Feeling of Being Overwhelmed and Avoid the Busyness Trap

5/2/2016

I'm two weeks post op from my hysterectomy, and although I'm feeling great, I know I need to listen to my Dr. and take it easy, so that means no workouts for another 4 weeks.

I. Cannot. Sit still.

So while I'm going stir crazy, I'm taking this time to catch up on some personal development.

Right now I'm listening to the audio of Mastering Your Mean Girl, the no-BS guide to becoming wildly wealthy wealthy, fabulously healthy & bursting with love, by Melissa Ambrosini and I'm loving it! It was recommended by another #BabeSquad member and I'm so glad she shared it.

Here are her top 7 tips to ditch the feeling of being overwhelmed and avoid the busyness trap!

1. Start using you calendar

Preferably a digital one. You can add/edit easily, sync, send invites and also share with family members to make it easy to keep everyone in the loop.

2. Make sure you schedule in time for you
Schedule your downtime... self love, meditation, workouts, yoga, etc. You can make it a reoccurring task in your digital calendar.

3. Delegate
Focus your attention on what you love and what you're best at. Figure out what you love doing and what you're good at vs what you don't like doing and hire someone to do those tasks. Stay in your zone of genius & stop wasting your precious time doing things you don't enjoy. Life is too short to do anything that doesn't light you up!

4. Ask for help
It's a common misconception that you're a failure for asking for help. Asking for help isn't an act of weakness, it's an act of self love.

5. Do a brain dump
Every morning, do a brain dump into Things, a management productivity app. This will keep you from getting overwhelmed and falling into the busyness trap.

6. Meditate
Prioritize this time and it will super charges your productivity.

7. Eat your frog first
Divide your brain dump (from #5) into 4 categories:
  • Tasks you don't like, but are super important (these are your frogs)
  • Tasks you do like and are important
  • Tasks you like, but are unimportant
  • Tasks you don't like and are unimportant (these ones are the time wasters)
Prioritize the sections and tackle the frogs first. These are the ones that are important, but you don't like doing. They're the ones that you're not motivated to do and will send you into procrastination mode and hang over your head and fill you with guilt. These tasks require structure around them to make sure they actually get finished and are recommended to be accomplished first thing in the morning. Getting these tasks accomplished is incredibly rewarding.

Bonus tip: Ban the word "busy"
The next time someone asks how you are, instead of responding with, "I'm so busy" try connecting with how you're actually feeling and go from there.

I hope this helps keep you from getting overwhelmed!
